Case Study: Angling Webshop

Haldepó

An online store selling angling gear, serving both wholesale and retail customers. A redesign of the previous Symfony 1.4 site that grew into several feature additions during development. The new system is built on Symfony 4 with a jQuery front-end, syncing products and orders with the business-management system several times a day, plus per-user differentiated pricing.

The Challenge

On their Symfony 1.4 site the client primarily wanted a redesign, but several feature-expansion needs came up during development. The biggest challenge was integrating with an extremely poorly documented business-management system: the product range had to be refreshed from it several times a day, and orders placed in the webshop sent back to it. On top of that, per-user differentiated pricing had to be implemented, with its data also coming from the business-management system.

The Solution

I built a Symfony 4-based system under the site, with a jQuery front-end. I implemented a two-way connection to the poorly documented business-management system: syncing the product range several times a day and automatically submitting orders. I also implemented the per-user differentiated pricing, likewise read from the business-management system.
